Founded in 1968, Trinity Counseling Service has been ministering to residents, workers and students in the greater Princeton community for almost forty years. Originally an outgrowth of the pastoral concern of The Rev. E. Rugby Auer, the Counseling Service incorporated as an independent non-profit agency in 1977. Since that time, many thousands of individuals and families of all faiths and beliefs have benefited from our compassionate therapy. As an adjunct to our individual counseling services, we work closely with the Princeton School System and Princeton Nursery School to promote school readiness and classroom success among underserved children.

photoOriginally housed in Trinity Church offices, the Counseling Service has been located at 22 Stockton Street since 1974. The current colors of the historic building are familiar to most who drive down Nassau or Stockton Streets; steel gray with black shutters and white trim, the house boasts a distinctive red door. The red door has always been the object of much discussion, but in the end, it is simply a color which symbolizes welcome and which indicates a confidential and safe haven within.

The interior of the building reflects the completion of a year long project spear-headed by the Buildingphoto and Grounds Committee. Walls were repaired, bathrooms gutted and furniture re-upholstered. The interior walls were then painted a cheerful yellow or apple green, and the molding a bright white. With new carpeting and furniture throughout, the building truly resembles a gracious home. Each time clients cross the threshold, they are not only greeted by welcoming staff members or therapists, they are also greeted with a cheerful, fresh and comfortable environment.
